We meet at 11:30 a.m. the second Wednesday of every month except for January, July and August. We hold a regular business meeting followed by a program of historical, educational or patriotic interest, and often go out for lunch together afterwards

Recent programs and guest speakers have included:
  • Bill Stilwagen, Vice President and Bush Guide for Vietnam Battlefield Tours, Inc., a non-profit organization that organizes and funds return trips to Vietnam for veterans and families, seeking information, peace, closure or fresh perspectives.
  • A.J. Jacobs, author of The Year of Living Biblically and the upcoming It’s All Relative – Adventures Up and Down the Word’s Family Tree
  • Holly Villaire, Daughter, previewing her film, “A Time to Remember” based on authentic wartime correspondence between a fallen U.S. soldier’s family and a young woman he met while posted in England during WWII.
  • Chef Walter Staib, Head Chef at City Tavern in Philadelphia, expert on recreation of authentic colonial cooking and host of the television series “A Taste of History.”
  • Melanie Wells (chapter treasurer and former actor): “Patriot Figures of the Revolution” series, featuring Sybil Ludington (the “female Paul Revere”); General “Mad” Anthony Wayne; Chief Daniel Ninham; Enoch Crosby (American double agent)
  • Loraine Faina, Daughter: on Seneca Falls and the Birth of the Women’s Movement.
  • Eugenia Askren, chapter historian, presentation on Patsy Dandridge.

Events

Our members take part in a variety of trips for service projects or to explore historic interest. A sampling includes:
  • Clean-up day at Morris Jumel Mansion; planting of boxwoods on the mansion grounds, and planting of a tree cutting from Mt. Vernon.
  • Visits to Fraunces Tavern.
  • Visit to Sotheby’s to view Americana Collection, including the Chester Portraits (patriots painted by Joseph Seward) which hung for years at the Morris Jumel Mansion Museum, and were offered at auction at Sotheby’s in 2018.
  • Tour of Melzingah Chapter House, the 1709 Madam Brett Homestead, Beacon, New York.
  • Trip to City Tavern in Philadelphia for an authentic Colonial Luncheon.
  • Trip to Museum of the City of New York, October 2017, to view a comprehensive installation on the history of the Women’s Suffrage Movement in the United States.
