For over 25 years, the Manhattan Chapter, NSDAR, has regularly met at the mansion of former New York Governor Samuel J. Tilden on Gramercy Park, thanks to our late chapter member and benefactress, the artist Eleanor Gay Lee. Mrs. Lee produced original artwork that drew critical praise both during her lifetime and afterward. |

MusicManhattan Chapter, NSDAR, Daughter Loraine Faina, a musician, was the organizer and inspiration behind a musical group of Daughters who entertained veterans at the 23rd Street Manhattan VA Hospital with a Christmas program. Daughter and former Manhattan Chapter, NSDAR, Regent, Victoria Chall, is a watercolorist whose works have been featured in many local North Carolina exhibits; she also released an album on which she sings popular and jazz favorites.
LiteratureManhattan Chapter, NSDAR, Daughter and retired Professor, Dr. Elaine Fenton, began, and now skillfully led a chapter Book Club, where members reviewed, read and discussed historical works on the founding of our nation.
Artist, Victoria Serene Chall
Bringing History to LifeOur Daughters offer lively and engaging presentations on historical figures, bringing them to life with zest. Former regent Victoria Chall started that trend with her “re-creation” of DAR Founder Ellen Walworth (in Victorian costume) via a mock “press interview,” on Walworth’s life and work. Treasurer Melanie Wells has channeled historical figures from the Hudson Valley (Sybil Ludington, Chief Daniel Ninham and legendary “American spy” Enoch Crosby) with her dramatic presentations; Eugenia Askren brought Patsy Dandridge to life in a “guess who” presentation honoring the life of a beloved “first” First Lady.

FilmChapter Daughter Holly Villaire, a film maker, has produced award winning short films including “A Time to Remember,” a moving narrative based on authentic World War II correspondence between an American paratrooper’s mother and a young Englishwoman, before and after the young man lost his life in the D-Day invasion of Normandy. The film featured Manhattan Chapter, NSDAR, Daughter Melanie Wells, a former actor, in the role of the soldier’s mother. Holly also produced “Taboo,” recently the recipient of the “Best Artistic Freedom” award at the 2018 Polish Short Film Festival in Las Vegas.
LegacyOver the past several years, our beloved “Book Architect,” historian and Daughter, Eugenia Askren, has designed and published a series of “small but mighty” books with heartwarming appeal:
